NSF is an independent global services organization dedicated to protecting and improving human health. Founded in 1944 at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, NSF has spent the past 80 years developing public health standards and providing testing, inspection, certification, consulting services, and digital solutions for industries including food, water, and dietary supplements.
Today, NSF employs approximately 3,000 people worldwide, bringing together microbiologists, toxicologists, chemists, engineers, and experts in environmental and public health from around the globe. NSF operates modern laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 standards and serves more than 40,000 clients across 110 countries and territories. NSF is also a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Food Safety and Water Quality.
From pioneering food equipment and drinking water safety standards in the 1960s and 1970s to expanding into pharmaceutical and sports nutrition certification in the 1990s, NSF has continuously broadened its expertise. Today, NSF-developed standards are widely adopted by regulatory authorities and industries around the world.
Focused on three core sectors—Food and Dietary Supplements, Water, and Life Sciences—NSF provides technical services throughout the entire product lifecycle, including standards development, testing and certification, auditing and assessment, and regulatory compliance support. These services are widely applied in areas such as food supply chain safety, drinking water quality assurance, and life sciences product quality management.
In China, NSF has continued to strengthen its local presence: investing in Shanghai HEB Certification Co., Ltd. in 2005; establishing NSF (Shanghai) Testing Technology Co., Ltd. in 2011; opening a branch office in Qingdao in 2019; and establishing NSF Taiwan in Taipei in 2025. Together, these milestones have enabled NSF to build a comprehensive service network across Greater China.
